I have been singing this hymn all week. "Jesus Paid it All". At church last Sunday we sang it and it really left a different impression on me than ever before.
Jesus Paid It All – What does this mean? Believing Jesus paid it all is at the foundation of Christianity. It is based on the faith that God sent Jesus Christ as His Son to earth and that Jesus was crucified on a cross and rose to life again to pay the debt for sin. This was His purpose. We have all sinned against God and He provided the only way for atonement. Jesus was sent as our Savior to pay this debt. God offers this gift for each of us and all we must do is accept His grace and forgiveness. In doing this, we acknowledge that Jesus is Lord, has taken on our debt and paid it all for us. This realization inspired one of the longest-standing hymns of all time. Elvina Hall wrote this hymn in 1965.
Chorus - Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.
Vs. 1 - I hear the Savior say, "Thy strength indeed is small; Child of weakness, watch and pray, Find in Me thine all in all."
Vs. 2- For nothing good have I Whereby Thy grace to claim, I'll wash my garments white In the blood of Calv'ry's Lamb.
Vs.3 - And now complete in Him My robe His righteousness, Close sheltered 'neath His side, I am divinely blest.
Vs.4 - Lord, now indeed I find Thy power and Thine alone, Can change the leper's spots And melt the heart of stone.
Vs.5 - When from my dying bed My ransomed soul shall rise, "Jesus died my soul to save," Shall rend the vaulted skies.
Vs.6 - And when before the throne I stand in Him complete, I'll lay my trophies down All down at Jesus' feet.
